Parliamentary Ombud (Sivilombudet)
Appointed by the Storting to safeguard the rights of individuals in their dealings with the public administration, it "is an independent body". It also hosts Norway's National Preventive Mechanism under the UN torture-prevention protocol (OPCAT), visiting police custody facilities, prisons and psychiatric institutions.
Bureau for the Investigation of Police Affairs (Spesialenheten for politisaker)
A national investigation and prosecution agency whose purpose is to investigate cases where employees of the police or the prosecuting authority are suspected of committing criminal offences in the course of duty — an independent body outside the ordinary police and prosecution chain. It is a meaningful check precisely because the prosecution otherwise reaches inside the police.
Norwegian Courts Administration (Domstoladministrasjonen)
The independent agency responsible for the central administration of the courts, which does not interfere in judicial decisions — the institutional expression of the constitutional requirement (Article 91) of independent court administration.
