Policing in Greece is national. The Hellenic Police (Ελληνική Αστυνομία, Ellinikí Astynomía) is a single national force; there are no separate regional or municipal police forces of general competence. It sits under the Ministry of Citizen Protection (Υπουργείο Προστασίας του Πολίτη). Maritime enforcement is separate — the Coast Guard reports to the Ministry of Shipping — as are the armed forces under the Ministry of National Defence.
