What it is
The Politieacademie states both halves of its position in consecutive sentences: it has been part of the police since 2017, and it is a zelfstandig bestuursorgaan, meaning it makes its own policy and carries out its own tasks. Those are not in tension. Being inside the organisation is a fact about position; being an independent administrative body is a fact about who decides what it does. Its reporting line runs past the police entirely, directly to the Ministry of Justice and Security, and its quality is judged from two directions at once — by the Inspectie Justitie en Veiligheid for its courses and examinations, and by the NVAO for its soundness as higher education.
