What it is
The Rendőrség describes itself as an "állami, fegyveres rendvédelmi szerv" — a state armed law-enforcement body. It is organised as the Országos Rendőr-főkapitányság at the centre, county and capital police headquarters beneath it, then captaincies and branch offices. Separate bodies exist for particular tasks, among them the Készenléti Rendőrség, the Repülőtéri Rendőr Igazgatóság and the Rendőrségi Oktatási és Kiképző Központ; the force names them without describing what each does, so neither does this page.

SCOPE: the Hungarian police only. The force’s own page, read directly. Supports that the Rendőrség is an "állami, fegyveres rendvédelmi szerv" — a state armed law-enforcement body — whose basic task is the prevention and detection of crime and the protection of public safety, public order and the order of the state border; and, citing Act XXXIV of 1994 § 1(1), that beyond its constitutional duties its tasks include "a határforgalom ellenőrzése, a terrorizmus elleni küzdelem" and crime-prevention and crime-detection checks. Establishes nothing about any other Hungarian body.

SCOPE: the organisational units of the Hungarian police. Read directly. Supports that the body carrying out general police tasks is divided into a central organ, the Országos Rendőr-főkapitányság, county (and capital) police headquarters (megyei, fővárosi rendőr-főkapitányság), police captaincies (rendőrkapitányság) and branch offices (kirendeltség); and that separate bodies exist for particular tasks — the Készenléti Rendőrség, the Repülőtéri Rendőr Igazgatóság, the Rendőrségi Oktatási és Kiképző Központ, the Nemzetközi Bűnügyi Együttműködési Központ and the Nemzetközi Oktatási Központ. The page NAMES those bodies without describing what each does, and no function is asserted for any of them.
