What it is
The Police of the Czech Republic is one force for the whole country. Its own account of its structure is the Police Presidium (Policejní prezidium), nationwide central units (celostátní útvary), and fourteen Regional Police Directorates (Krajská ředitelství policie). The regional tier matters for what it is not: a regional directorate is a territorial subdivision of the national force, not a police service belonging to a region, and a reader who assumes otherwise will read Czech policing as decentralised when it is not.

The national police force's own account of itself. URL CORRECTED on 2026-09-17: the .aspx path cited four days earlier now returns HTTP 404 — the site has been rebuilt on the gov.cz design system — and the break was found by the source monitor, not by a person. Supports that the force is a 'jednotný ozbrojený bezpečnostní sbor', that it 'je podřízena ministerstvu vnitra', and that 'Tvoří ji policejní prezidium, útvary s celostátní působností, krajská ředitelství policie a útvary zřízené v rámci krajských ředitelství', with 'Zákon zřizuje 14 krajských ředitelství policie'. EVIDENCE CHANGED WITH THE URL: the new page names the Czech National Council law of 21 June 1991 as the founding statute and does NOT mention Act No. 273/2008 Coll., which the superseded page did. The act number is therefore no longer supported by this source, and the pages that state it already record it as taken from the force's own references rather than from the statutory text.
